Look on the Bright Side...

I have admitted before that being a single mom is tough.  Yes, I am lucky enough that Peanut's dad and I are able to co-parent and put Peanut first but it's still tough.  The daily duties of disciplining and caring for a 4 1/2 year old boy can be very tiring when you are doing them all by yourself.

But being a single mom can have its perks too.

If macaroni and cheese is all I need to make for dinner, then that's all I make.  If I want to take Peanut to the park, I don't need to see if someone else had other plans for the day.  I don't have to share any of Peanut's cuddles, they are all mine for the taking.  If Peanut and I want to be lazy on a Sunday and watch Disney movies in our pajamas, we can do it without being made to feel guilty.

I also have much more time for friends.  I can go out every other weekend without having to worry about finding a babysitter.  I have more time to procrastinate get housework and errands completed.  I have more time for myself.

Don't get me wrong, I don't want to be a single mom forever.  I want to be married again and have my happily ever after one day.  However, I'm going to take advantage of it for a while and use it as a learning experience - to learn about myself.

If you're a single mom, tell me about the positives you have found.  Yes, it's a tough job but it does have some perks.

  2. I don't think you have to be a single mom, just newly single, to appreciate personal freedom! It's great to get to go what you want and not have to take anyone else's feelings into account. I say enjoy it :)
